Television Shows From The 80s

Below you will find a number of TV shows that were popular back in the Eighties, many are available as DVD Sets or you can find them being repeated on specialist TV stations ( Terrestrial and Cable ) that feature popular old 1980s TV Classics. Great fun , while doing the research it bought back many fond memories of my childhood. I wonder how many others found themselves humming along with the theme music.

Baywatch

Baywatch American TV Series about Los Angeles County Lifeguards featuring "Mitch Buchannon" played by David Hasselhoff and many others possibly the best known being "C.J. Parker" played by Pamela Anderson one of the many featured in slow motion running up the beach . Series ran from 1989 - 1999.

Hill Street Blues

Perry Mason based on a fictional defense attorney "Perry Mason" played by the actor Raymond Burr and his faithful secretary, "Della Street" . Series ran from 1957 till 1966.

Highway to Heaven

Highway to Heaven American TV Series based on angel sent down from heaven starring Michael Landon as Jonathan Smith and Victor French playing his human assistant Mark Gordon. Series ran from 1984 - 1989.

Knight Rider

Knight Rider featuring Knight Industries Two Thousand (KITT) a talking car with artificial intelligence ( Car was a tricked out Pontiac Firebird Trans Am ) driven by Michael Knight played by David Hasselhoff fighting crime using the super car which could be remote controlled. Series ran from 1982 - 1986.

Married with Children

Married with Children comedy based on the Bundy family with "Al Bundy" played by Ed O'Neill and his dysfunctional family living in a Chicago suburb. Series ran from 1987 - 1997.

Fame

Fame TV series featuring music and dancing from the students and faculty of the New York City High School for the Performing Arts. Series ran from 1982 - 1987.

Cagney & Lacey

Cagney & Lacey featuring Sharon Gless as Christine Cagney and Tyne Daly as Mary Beth Lacey who were two New York City police detectives from very different backgrounds Cagney a single, career-minded woman and Lacey a married working mother. The series as well as gaining high ratings also won an Emmy for Best Lead Actress in a Drama six straight years in a row. Series ran from 1982 - 1988.

Matlock

Matlock was an American television legal drama featuring Ben Matlock a defense attorney played by Andy Griffith using his position as a defense attorney to help the accused by using private investigators to look into the crime.. Series ran from 1986 - 1992.

MacGyver

MacGyver was an American TV series about the resourceful secret agent Angus MacGyver who always had his Swiss Army knife handy to combine with other ordinary everyday objects to get out of the tightest jams, played by Richard Dean Anderson, . . Series ran from 1985 - 1992.

The A Team

The A Team is an American television series about a fictional group of ex-United States Army Special Forces starring John "Hannibal" Smith played by George Peppard, Lt. Templeton "Faceman" Peck "Face", Capt. H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock and Sgt. B.A. "Bad Attitude" Baracus who work as soldiers of fortune. The show created a number of well known catch phrases "Hannibal" "I love it when a plan comes together" and BA Baracus "I ain't gettin' on no plane!". Series ran from 1983 - 1987.

The Cosby Show based on an upper-middle class African-American The Huxtable family, living in Brooklyn, New York starring Bill Cosby. Series ran from 1984 - 1992.

Cheers was an American situation comedy television series based in the bar Cheers ( was actually called The Bull & Finch Pub ) in Boston, Stars on the series included Sam Malone played by Ted Danson, Diane Chambers played by Shelley Long and Kelsey Grammer played by Frasier Crane . Series ran from 1982 - 1993.

Growing Pains American Sitcom about a family who are forced to change lifestyles as the wife goes back to work, the husband works from home and the trials and tribulations of a boy growing up and coming to terms with who he is. One additional notable member of the cast is Leonardo DiCaprio who played Luke Brower Seaver during the 1991 - 1992 season . Series ran from 1985 - 1992.

The Golden Girls

The Golden Girls American TV Sitcom about 4 older women sharing a Miami, Florida home ( Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia ) who are best of friends but bicker constantly and argue over anything from men to shopping and because of the close environment and very differnet backgrounds have widely differing views. The series won 11 Emmy awards and four Golden Globe Awards and . Series ran from 1985 - 1992.
